CUATRO PIEZAS PARA QUINTETO DE ALIENTOS (Four Pieces for Woodwind Quintet)

The short first movement uses imitation of themes much as an invention as well as treatments of rhythmic varieties, however, not adhering to traditional harmonic structure.  The second movement, similar to scherzo in nature, continues the examination of  rhythmic interplay while inverting the thematic material. The third, Lento movement, Cota takes one on an introspective wandering through a sometimes dark passage, as though contemplating the vicissitudes of life  in slow musical language. The fourth movement brings one back to a festive, fugue like finish, and inter playing the rhythms within ostinato patterns. The horn interspersed in changing musical interplay with the clarinet and oboe is of limited technical difficulty and making this an attractive piece for student performance.

SONATINA FOR CLARINET AND PIANO

This sonatina for clarinet and piano has three movements in classical forms.
The first movement, which in a sort of way takes the place of a lacking slow movement is intimately sad and at the same dramatic in nature.
The brilliant last movement reflects the ludicrous character of panurge, a personage of old French literature, it makes a good contrast with the other two rather fast movements. The short second one was composed previously as one of several pieces intended to set to music and old mute film (nosferatu).
